Ready for some writing practise?

Saturday, February 2, 2008

Let me tell the rules before starting the game. I don't know how to name the game. I am going to start it myself. Ill start writing a story. Ill stop with some 5-10 lines.You Visitors who ever want to continue the story, you can do. U can make the next ten lines according to your imagination. I hope it will be fun. I am fixing some strict rules for the game.
1) One should write only upto some ten-15 lines.
2) The visitor who wrote already should write only after some one else has attempted the continuation. (This is to prevent the dominance of one)
Hope the rules are clear.

GAME STARTS...........

That was the last day of college.Rahul never thought how the days went on, to him it was like everything happened so fast and that day he was going to attend the graduation day.The thought of boarding the college bus for the last time made his stomach tickle with a jolt. Rushed inside the bus to get the corner seat which he usually hated. He looked around to identify some of the familiar faces. Things has certainly changed. Funny,Ever lasting college days, not anymore.

Microsoft Offers $44.6B for Yahoo

Microsoft has come up with an unsolicited takeover offer of $44.6 Billion in its boldest bit to challenge the Google Inc. The surprise offer of $31 per share, made late Thursday and announced Friday, seizes on Yahoo's weakness while Microsoft tries to muscle up in a high-stakes battle with Google likely to define the technology landscape for years to come.In a statement Friday, Yahoo said it will "carefully and promptly" study Microsoft's bid. "This is a decision we have -- and I have -- thought long and hard about," Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said. "We are confident it's the right path for Microsoft and Yahoo."In a letter released Friday, Ballmer pointedly noted"A year has gone by, and the competitive situation has not improved".The fate of Yahoo's brand also is unclear if Microsoft takes over. Both Ballmer and Kevin Johnson, president of Microsoft's platforms and services division, hailed Yahoo's strong brand value but didn't commit to keeping the name alive.

I thought the following program was a perfect C program. But on compiling, I found a silly mistake. Can you find it out (without compiling the program :-) ?
Be true to yourself. Find the error without compiling and be The hero. (pretty easy i guess)

void OS_Windows_print()

printf("Windows - Microsoft\n");

}
void OS_HP-UX_print()
{
printf("HP-UX - Hewlett Packard\n");
}

scanf("%d",&num);

Internet services in Egypt and India disrupted

CAIRO (Reuters) - A breakdown in an international undersea cable network disrupted Internet links to Egypt, India and Gulf Arab countries on Wednesday, and Egypt said it could take several days for its services to return to normal.

It was not immediately possible to gauge the impact of the disruption on financial institutions. Egypt's telecoms ministry said 70 percent of the country's Internet network was down and India initially said it had lost over half its bandwidth.

"This cut has affected Internet services in Egypt with a partial disruption of 70 percent of the network nationwide," the Egyptian ministry said in a statement.

Residents of Gulf Arab countries also reported a slowdown in Internet connectivity. The Bahrain Telecommunications Co said its services were affected after two undersea cables were cut near Alexandria, on Egypt's north coast.

The Egyptian telecoms ministry said it did not know how the cables were cut or if weather was a factor. Storms had forced Egypt to close the northern mouth of the Suez canal on Tuesday.

India also reported serious disruptions to its services and Rajesh Chharia, president of the Internet Service Providers' Association of India, told Reuters: "There has been a 50 to 60 percent cut in bandwidth."

Chharia told the Headlines Today news channel that a "degraded" service would be up and running by Wednesday night, but full restoration would take 10 to 15 days.

"The big operators have transferred their small broadband connectivity through the Pacific route, and that's the reason there's no hue and cry in the country," he said.

One Indian Internet service provider affected by the cut, Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL), said its service had been "largely restored" by diverting to another cable. Two outsourcing firms in Bangalore reported minimal disruption.

"There has been a small outage in the evening today. But it has been restored now," said a spokesman for Satyam Computer, India's fourth-biggest outsourcing firm.

THE REAL COMMON MAN

Wednesday, January 30, 2008

After a very coincidence of naming my blog as common man, till yesterday i never really know who the real common man is. R K Laxman THE REAL COMMON MAN.
R K Laxman, a man blessed with a unique sense of satire is the most loved cartoonist in India whose popularity has traveled to several other countries. His common man cartoons and his punchlines have covered every aspect of social and political life, for over five decades. Of his anecdotes, the most uncanny adventures of his common man generated great interest among gamblers who saw lucky numbers concealed in his cartoons.

Yesterday CNN IBN honored him by giving LIFE TIME achievement award. The Government of India awarded him the prestigious Padma Bhushan. The University of Marathawada conferred an honorary Doctor of Literature degree on him. He has won several awards in his lifetime, including Asia’s top journalism award and the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1984. R. K. Laxman lives in Mumbai.
I really feel honored blogging about such a great man.
